Eintracht Frankfurt Crowned UEFA Europa League Champions
Penalty Shootout Drama in Seville
Eintracht Frankfurt emerged victorious in a thrilling penalty shootout against Rangers FC in the final of the 2021/22 UEFA Europa League.
The match at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in Seville, Spain, ended 1-1 after extra time, with Joe Aribo giving Rangers an early lead before Rafael Borré equalized for Frankfurt in the second half.
In the penalty shootout, Frankfurt converted all five of their attempts, while Rangers missed their first and decisive penalty, taken by Aaron Ramsey, handing the German club their first European title since 1980.
The victory marks a significant achievement for Frankfurt, who had never before reached the final of a major European competition. They become the second German team to win the Europa League, after Bayern Munich in 1996.
For Rangers, the defeat will come as a bitter disappointment, as it marks their second defeat in a major European final in as many years. They lost the UEFA Europa League final to Manchester United in 2021.
